Over the past twenty years substantial

development has gone into creating digital radiation imaging cameras especially for x and gamma ray applications. Main stream efforts focus on flat panels involving a-Si TFT array coupled to a scintillator or a phosphor. Another established technology involves CCD's and scintillators or more recently CMOS’es and scintillators. Such approaches (indirect conversion of x-rays to electronic signal) suffer from lack of sensitivity, clarity and functionality.

From the start, AJAT innovated a distinct approach with unique advantages involving  CdTe (or CdZnTe) direct conversion pixilated detectors hybridized (interconnected) with custom designed CMOS chips.  CdTe-CMOS technology offers:

  • Superb sensitivity to photon radiation (x and gamma rays)
  • Very high image resolution and sharpness
  • Fast readout cycle, enabling dynamic image acquisition and display even at very low dose rates
  • Design flexibility and functionality that can be implemented on the custom made CMOS
  • Light weight and compact implementation

Our expertise is a result of our outstanding human resources, continuous and consistent R&D and specialized production. We specialize in:

  • Manufacturing of CdTe-CMOS, CdZnTe-CMOS, silicone radiation imaging sensors
  • CdTe, CdZnTe, Si -technology
  • Electronics (mixed signal, programmable logic and full custom ASIC design for radiation imaging
  • Application, image reconstruction and processing software
  • Production/Flip-Chip interconnect of CdTe/CdZnTe/Si to  ASICs

For each product application we work closely and openly with OEM's and end-users to define the specifications and the requirements.

For years one of the critical issues bringing CdTe/CdZnTe-based products into the market has been the lack of a dedicated production facility that could hybridize or interconnect the single crystals to their associated ASIC's.

AJAT has a state of the art production facility dedicated to delivering volumes of CdTe-ASIC hybrids. Our proprietary manufacturing processes are tuned to do just that.

Sensor types, functionality, performance

Ajat represents a unique radiation imaging digital technology, that combines a dedicated direct conversion detector substrate (CdTe or CdZnTe) connected via micro bumps or conductive adhesives to a dedicated CMOS readout substrate. X-rays or gamma  photons convert inside the detector directly into electrical signal, eliminating the intermediate step of conversion into light of most other imaging technologies. The resulting electrical signals are picked up and processed by a dedicated CMOS. The Ajat imaging  device is referred to as an imaging tile, hybrid or die. Due to the fact that detection and signal processing/readout are separated such imaging devices offer a broad range of functionality with outstanding performance:

  • Charge integration with frame mode output
  • Photon counting with analog or digital output
  • Time Delay Integration with fast line output

AJAT offers:

  • Dental Systems (ART Plus, ART Plus C)
  • Dental Sensors (OEM)
  • Industrial Sensors (OEM)
  • Medical Sensors (OEM)
  • CMOS design and proto-lots (full custom, mixed signal)
  • Production Services (bumping, bonding, automatic die assembly, probing & testing)
